Olympic Rambles (Men's Ice Hockey Edition)

As preliminary, congratulations to all respective winners. As for my choice of MVP of the tournament, it would be Juuse Saros. I know, I know, Hellebuyck's there but he already got them gold, alright? Gotta give spotlight for others too.

Alright to the meat of the point. Due to time constraints, I only able to watch full games of semifinals and finale live. For the finals, it was very very VERY mundane... Yeah, you heard me right, munnndaneee...

I think it has something to do with both Team Canada and Team USA being all NHL players. Thus it ended up feeling like a regular NHL season with mixed players in the team for some reason. Plus no Crosby nor Bedard from the get-go really made the matchup even less favourable (still good enough being watchable though).

As for my reasoning for Saros, it's as simple as being very impressed with his performance against Team Canada. That semifinal was so full of rollercoaster! Gotta admit it was a very hard watch too, nerve-wracking and all.

His sheer endurance to tank, block and save all the continuous shots was just... astounding. 39 shots through and through across three periods, mind you! Even I got a bit mentally exhausted watching him like that. (・_・;)

Alas, I'm happy that at least Team Finland won something for their nation. For Saros, for Teravainen, for being home of Liiga, Mestis and bandy. A little bit of love for defence team as well.

Backtracking to Team Canada, I'm wondering if the outcome will be any different (or any good for that matter) if both Crosby and Bedard on the ice. I feel like former absence did had tid bit impact on team's psychology, for better or worse. Latter is more for so that the Vancouver boys had shoulder for each other. I'd say there's a difference whenever one is consoled by their elders versus their peers when being in the same trench.

Anyway I need to make some time to rewatch past games, especially Team Germany. Need to see Müller and Reichel on action!
